Ointment is the drug dosage used topically through the skin surface. Ointment base plays an important role on the rate of drug release. Drug release from the carrier can be enhanced by the addition of surfactant. Has been studied the influence of tween 60 on the physical properties and release rate of benzocaine ointment with a base simplex. Tween 60 is a surfactant that can increase the speed of drug release. Simplex basis is one of the fatty ointment base which is capable of absorbing water.
